This work highlights the collision of Sweden’s strict regulations on corruption and the institution of gift giving and analyzes how people strive to remain professional in a world where social
and interpersonal relationships still matter, drawing on concepts from sociology and anthropology to examine gifts and bribes as manifestations of normal human impulses. The study looks at the
everyday dilemmas faced by low-level Swedish professionals working in the public sector, in foreign aid, and adoption agencies, and businesspeople interacting with foreign officials or
contractors. Annotation ©2014 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
