Alfred H. Mendes, a writer in Trinidad in the 1930s, was a member of the Beacon group of Trinidadian artists and writers. This work collects his poems, short stories, journalism, and letters
from the 1920s-40s. His writing deals with colonial rule, national identity, and Trinidad’s culture and politics. The book includes an introduction on Mendes and the time period; selections
