The 17 papers collected here by Etemad (international business and marketing, McGill U.) are presented in support of an evolutionary theory of the internationalizations of smaller films and
markets. The theory holds that the technologically-influenced processes of evolutionary change in industrialized and emerging economies haveremoved historical barriers to trade investment,
which has in turn augmented firms’ competitiveness across the board and provided increasing levels of information to buyers and suppliers. It also suggests that the higher competitiveness of
emerging firms and emerging economies has heightened the process and is even driving it in some cases. The papers have been organized into four parts discussing theoretical foundations of small
and medium enterprise internationalization; factors impacting internationalization of small and medium enterprises in emerging markets; the impact of the environment, firm characteristics, and
institutional heritage on internationalization in emerging economies; and the impact of public policy and the home-country environments on internationalization of smaller films. Annotation
