In 2003 the Exxon Corporation donated its massive historical collection to the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at the U. of Texas at Austin. Pratt is a business academic who has
studied the oil industry for 40 years. He enlisted co-author Hale, a historian, to prepare this fifth volume in the company’s history, drawing on the Dolph archives. In the preface the author
acknowledges the many charges of social irresponsibility and corporate negligence that Exxon has received, but this history is a respectful treatment of an enormously successful company and the
elements that have combined to build its strength. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
