This guide teaches mental health trainees how to think about clients and apply that understanding to treatment planning and choices. It helps them develop an awareness of why they choose what
they do, integrating the various pieces of the helping process into a conceptualization that will help create positive change. Chapters in the first section address the meaning of
conceptualization, trainees’ understanding of how change happens and the effects of their world views and values on this understanding, the contexts that affect clients that need to be
considered to develop a conceptualization, dimensions of the therapeutic relationship and their effects on case conceptualization and treatment planning, and common dilemmas, particularly those
related to issues of fit between therapist and client, boundaries, and social justice. The second section covers the process of conceptualization and treatment planning, including gathering and
integrating information, diagnosis, iterative conceptualization, and continuous evaluation and termination. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
