This volume brings together the work of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Workshop on Water and Agriculture: Sustainability, Markets and Policies, held in
Adelaide, Australia, in November of 2005, as part of the OECD work program on agriculture and the environment under the auspices of the Joint Working Party on Agriculture and the Environment.
The main issue that the workshop addressed was the extent to which water used in agriculture is sustainable, in economic, social, environmental, and institutional terms. It also reviewed
current policy and market approaches used by countries to address agricultural water issues, considered approaches to ensure progress in agriculture’s sustainable use of water, and outlined
issues that could be further examined by decision makers, researchers, and the OECD. Participants were from countries around the world, including OECD governments, China, and South Africa.
Following an overview section, 26 papers are presented by those in academia, community, agricultural, environmental, water, and business fields, and international and non-governmental
organizations. There is no index. Annotation ©2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
