The Danish National Museum’s collection of lacquer works from East Asia dates from c. 1650. Introductory chapters describe lacquer materials, processing techniques, the history of
lacquerware--especially its development and decorative themes in China. The catalog proper chronologically covers the period from the end of the 14th century to the middle of the 20th century,
and consists chiefly of red carved lacquerware (tihong), but also features examples of secular and sacred objects made using other techniques. The volume includes stunning color photographs, a
chronological table of Chinese dynasties and republics, glossary, and map. Distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Co. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
