European expat Crévecoeur was a surveyor and trader in the US colonies. His Letters from an American Farmer, published in London in 1782, is a collection of essays on America; half of the
essays describe life on the Massachusetts islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. This book includes the 12 essays of the 1782 Letters, along with 13 other essays by Crévecoeur, which offer
descriptive sketches of places including Jamaica and the Bermudas, as well as the American frontier. An introduction by Moore (English, Florida State University) looks at how Crévecoeur
repackaged his book for French and English readers. Belknap Press is an imprint of Harvard University Press. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
