Guidelines to Overcome Architectural Barriers in Cultural Heritage Sites

A commission of the Italian government was formed to explore ways to make historical sites accessible to handicapped visitors without altering the site to the extent that it is no longer historic. The Guidelines were established, approved, adopted, and published in the Italian Official Gazette in 2008. The emphasis was not on further restrictions, but on operations within existing standards and laws. Here, in a translation by Erika J. Young, is an effort to make the Guidelines more widely known.
