Basse Dance of France and neighboring countries during the 15th and 16th century is known from 17 contemporary documents containing choreographies and sometimes other technical details. All of
them are presented here, to provide the first single-volume reference to Basse Dance. Each document is transcribed and supplied with a bibliography, introduction, translation and commentary,
and a statistical summary of the composition of its choreographies. The emphasis is on the dance itself rather than the accompanying music, which has been studied extensively by musicologists.
