內容簡介

Parker (law, Monash U., Australia) and Nielsen (political science, U. of Aarhus, Denmark) assemble 16 articles by scholars of governance, law, and political science from the US, Israel, Australia, and Europe who examine how businesses respond to efforts to regulate their behavior for the social and economic good. They focus on social, rather than economic, regulations, such as those to avert environmental catastrophe, prevent accidents, deliver essential services in an equitable way, achieve justice and social inclusion for the disadvantaged, and keep people's assets and livelihoods safe from financial crisis, and the compliance of business firms and their responses to and implementation of regulations. Chapters focus on firms' and individuals' motives to respond to regulation in different ways and their internal characteristics and capacities to respond; the influence of different regulatory enforcement strategies and styles on responses; and how regulation and responses to it emerge from regulators' and businesses' interactions with their broader social, economic, and political environments.
