Miller and Shahriari (ethnomusicology, Kent State U.) draw on a class they have given to teach students about music around the world, focusing on the music in addition to its cultural
associations. After introductory chapters on the elements of music, each geographical chapter has a historical, cultural, and musical overview of the region; visits to multiple sites within it
and description of their musical traditions; aural analysis; and discussion of cultural considerations. Three audio CDs (including one new one) of musical examples are provided. In this
edition, they have updated, revised, and added sites (replacing old sites that have been moved to the companion website); added more popular music and links to iTunes tracks and YouTube videos;
