內容簡介

Students of Curcic, a Serbian scholar of Byzantine art and architecture, now in the US, present 14 essays on aspects of Byzantine architecture inspired by his own interests and contributions. They are arranged in sections on the meanings of architecture, the fabrics of buildings, contexts and contents of buildings, and the afterlife of buildings. Among specific topics are the syntax of spolia in Byzantine Thessalonike, Armenia and the borders of medieval art, examples from northern Greece of life in a late Byzantine tower, imperial and aristocratic funerary panel portraits in the middle and late Byzantine periods, and interpreting medieval architecture through renovations.
