This is the second annual issue GEDI, which presents "a detailed look into the entrepreneurial character of nations" as a means of offering policy makers a tool for understanding strengths and
weaknesses in their own countries. Regarding the entrepreneurial environment as inextricably linked with development, the authors seek to educate leaders about improving that environment using
this annual measurement index. Seventy-nine countries are profiled using measures of 31 variables. These consist of aspirations, actions, and attitudes connected with institutional and
individual variables (e.g. corruption, freedom, tech transfer, skill, opportunity), and economic pillars (e.g. nonfear of failure, cultural support, quality of human resources, product and
process innovation, internationalization, risk capital). Each country's data is represented in four pages of tables, charts, and graphs. Acs (public policy, George Mason U.) and Szerb (business
and economics, U. of P穢cs, Hungary) jointly developed the Index and the long-term research project aimed at measuring global progress. Annotation 穢2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
