The Logic of Poetic Language: Explaining the Power of Poetry to Tranform Our Understanding of the World

This work explores how the rise in stature of scientific discourse and modes of thought in civic and academic institutions, as well as public perception during the 19th century, displaces the intellectual authority and influence of poetry and offers a much needed history of the current debate over poetry's place in contemporary culture.
