He spent countless hours out in the countryside as well as in zoos and museums, sketchbook in hand, recording the small nuances of light and shadow, feather and fur, the ripple of muscle or the repose of sleep. He filled hundreds of sketchbooks with drawings that could capture a living animal in just a few quick, bold strokes. This collection of sketches is intended to inspire and encourage the artist in all of us, to show the value of constant study and practice as well as the satisfaction in a creation well wrought.
