Young Lions: Challenged to Live Free has four major themes. The first is ancient African history from 10,000 BCE to 343 BCE and provides our youth with a wonderful opportunity to learn about
the magnificent achievements of their ancient African ancestors. The second theme is physical and mental health, where the reader learns how cigarettes, alcohol, and illegal drugs damage the
body, soul, and mind. The third theme involves the flawed criminal justice system and how the war on drugs and the mass incarceration of black males is based on enriching a segment of the
population. Someone must inform black males that a written record of incarceration will follow them for the remainder of their lives. The fourth theme is the real world. Education is
presented as one of the solutions to end generational poverty. In addition, strategies to cope with oppression, racism, and violence are provided.
