The Chicano Archives series, with the goal of facilitating access to Chicano collections, presents this work, cataloguing the art of the Mexican Museum of San Francisco, the largest collection
of Mexican and Chicano art. The collection spans the period from pre-conquest Mexico to contemporary works by Mexican American and Latino artists living in the US. The work is only in part a
catalogue, as nearly half of the volume is an essay by Davalos (Chicana/o studies, Loyola Marymount U.) detailing the rich history of the museum, from its founding in 1975 by artist Peter
Rodriguez to its current activities, often using historical documents of the museum itself, many of which are printed herein. Aside from the comprehensive collection guide, the text also
includes a selected bibliography. Annotation 穢2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
