This book is dedicated to the memory of all of those nameless, but courageous black american men and women who were just as much an integral part of this nation's Westward expansion and
development as their white counterparts. We are all aware of those white americans who were involved in the settlement of the american West, because their stories were first publicized and then
immortalized in dime novels. Later the heroic exploits of these white americans were exquisitely written into our public school history books. Moreover, with the advent of motion pictures,
these proud heroic tales of those white-americans so active in the expansion and settlment of the american West were then immortalized on the silver screen and elevated to mythical status in
the pantheon of our history and culture. Unfortunately however, the black man and woman's story has never been told with no where near this kind of candor, pride, or vigor. Conversely, whenever
the black american's story is told concerning their involvement in the Westward expansion and settlemet, it has been too often suffused with colossal lies, racist's myths, and negative stereo
types. Therefore, I am endeavoring in this book to tell the truth about the black man's and woman's involment in the development, expansion, and settlement of the american West. However, while
I am in no means, claiming that these tales are based upon fact, I am certifying that much of the information contained in these stories are based upon verifiable historical
evidence.Consequently, I certainly hope that you, the reader, will enjoy these stories and gain a long over-due appreciation for those brave and stout-hearted black men and women who were right
there, enduring every bit as much of the danger, death, and human privation as their white couterparts: but whose name never made it into the dime noval, our public school history books, or
whose faces never graced Hollywood's silver screen.
