Unlike a lot of historical fiction, the interplay of the characters is very revealing, exploring the renaissance and the complexities of a young woman's coming of age. As the storyline progresses, it reads much like a mystery, yet could be interpreted differently depending upon the reader's beliefs and up-bringing. The fact that the book leaves itself open to interpretation, makes it quite unique. Easy to read and fast paced, in some ways the book almost reads like a movie script.
