Commentaries on two prominent Wisconsin economists, John R. Commons (1862-1945) and Martin Bronfenbrenner (1914-97) are published here for the first time. One is Warner Winslow Gardner's
(1909-2003) "The Institutional Theory of John R. Commons" (1933). The other is a set of notes Warren J. Samuels took in a course on the distribution of income that Bronfenbrenner delivered at
the University of Wisconsin in the fall of 1954. He would have taken notes by hand, then periodically during the course typed them up, incorporating his restatements and commentary. That
