The fictions of Indian English writer Raja Rao (1908-2006) embody a dialogic "partnership" between East and West, according to Mercanti (U. of Udine, Italy). This dialogic partnership, which
interrogated the multicultural values, customs, and beliefs of East and West, was conducted in pursuit of higher philosophical truths connected to Mohandas K. (Mahatma) Gandhi's philosophy of
satyagraha and also in pursuit of the meaning of Indianness. Mercanti offers a detailed reading of the multicultural aspects of Rao's writings, both in terms of the East-West encounter and in
terms of India's own polyglot multiculturalism. He also conducts a linguistic analysis of Rao's use of the English language. Prices are converted from Euros and subject to fluctuation.
