Fourteen contributions presented by Iyer (English, Seattle U.) and Zare (women's studies, U. of Wyoming) engage with the debates among Indian authors and academics considering the hegemonic
role of English in defining the Indian literary canon. The contributors include academics, writers, and publishers from the United States and India and the contributions take the form of
personal and academic essays, as well as interviews, in an effort to provide a multivocal debate among different stakeholders. They are presented in sections concerned with the issues of
