Perspectives on the ’Other America’: Comparative Approaches to Caribbean and Latin American Culture

This interesting look at Caribbean culture and literature, along with that of Latin American countries with Caribbean coasts takes as its starting point the statements of �douard Glissant, an activist for Caribbean autonomy, on the "Other America". The authors have interpreted "Other" in several ways, from the portrayal of internal and external landscapes in the work of Caribbean authors to racial and gender-related feelings of otherness, to acts of becoming the Other by moving away from the Caribbean.
