內容簡介

In the course of travelling the subways of London, New York and Paris during his frequent business trips, Mark Jowett became fascinated by all the different characters he would see traveling underground. He began to make up stories surrounding the passengers he would meet in the Paris Metro, the London Underground and the New York Subway. Eventually he wrote nine stories in total-three for each city. Each story also includes the theme of music and an almost-criminal act, beyond the common thread of being connected with the subway. The stories are collected here, in Tubers, illustrated by Matthias Lechner.

While traveling the subways, he also marveled at all the different sounds he heard, from random passenger voices and conversations to the squeak of a subway door closing. He began to record random conversations and the bric-a-brac pastiche of sounds that occur in subways.

He has written songs incorporating many of these sounds and voices. There are nine songs, each one roughly associated with one of the nine stories. Some songs are purely instrumental whereas some have vocals (performed by Kevan Ellis the gifted vocalist for Cinderpop and Vancouver chanteuse Tea Petrovic) and lyrics that purvey the themes of particular stories.
‘Tubers’ the book contains all nine stories and a CD with the songs that accompany each story as well as several remixes.

Mark plans to have Tuber readings in each city in which the stories took place. The reading will also include live performances with a band and vocalists, of the Tubers’ music, as well as a multi-media backdrop of the many images he has also photographed on his underground journeys. Stay tuned!
