Children known as “Twice Exceptional” (or “2e”) are kids who are gifted and who have a physical or mental impairment. Often a child’s disability masks his giftedness, causing educators and other adults to focus on his weaknesses rather than developing his talents. In other cases, a child’s giftedness can mask her disability, meaning she won’t receive the special education services that could help her manage and possibly overcome her disability. This book is a call to action for parents and educators to rally for changes to the educational and mental health systems that keep these children trapped.
Alternatives to end the never-ending cycle of chasing a diagnosis to explain gift childrens’ (2e) weaknesses instead of having the world recognize the tremendous gifts they have to offer.
