Beautiful Beasties: A Creative Guide to Modern Pet Photography

Pet photography is a burgeoning subcategory for professional and hobbyist photographers.  As the digital revolution has allowed amateur photographers to begin marketing themselves as low-cost alternatives to professional studios, many professional photographers are expanding their offerings beyond the basic wedding photography and senior portrait photography.  As a result of this as well as American’s adoration for their pets, pet photography is an increasingly popular offering and a presentation on pet photography at WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) trade show in March 2010 drew standing-room only crowds.                     

From lolcats to petfinder.com, Americans are obsessed with their pets.  And with 62% of the U.S. population being pet owners, a how-to on pet photography is a long overdue guide.  In Unleashed: Techniques for Digital Pet Photography, Vicki Taufer will teach photographers how to capture appealing pet portraits.  While portrait books are a mainstay of the digital photography category, there are currently no serious pet photography books available on the market.  And as the pet photography business grows, photographers are increasingly looking for a handbook to teach them not only how to capture great pet portraits, but also how to work through the unique challenges of working with pets and their owners.  This book will cover all that and more, as well as provide stunning examples of Vicki’s own pet portraits.
