The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has a new wing devoted to art of the Americas--an exciting theme encompassing the enormously diverse cultural history and current manifestations of people living
in 35 (modern-day) countries. The theme also encompasses how these cultures have mixed and interacted materially and imaginatively. In this volume the emphasis is on that mix viewed through the
lens of the culture of the United States--an approach that narrows the scope and while stimulating rich opportunities for interpretation and appreciation. The authors are curators at the
Museum, and they have selected some 280 works, which they support with interpretive and contextual essays. Arrangement is in chapters under themes of native peoples, Europe, and Africa and the
Near East. The format is oversize: 10x8.5". Annotation 穢2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
