Tin-glazed tiles have decorated London floors and walls for 400 years. Museum of London curators trace their use to imports from Spain, the Netherlands, and Flanders (Belgium) in the 16th
century through their 18th century manufacture in the British capitol. They discuss manufacturing methods, design motifs, and the scientific analysis of some of the tiles to determine their
place of production. The volume includes a catalog of some 500 tiles (some discussed here for the first time); maps of London buildings with these tiles; book summaries in French, Dutch, and
German; and a bibliography of primary and secondary sources. Distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Co. Annotation 穢2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
