內容簡介

This volume is the result of 15 years of data gathering in 45 European cities supported by the World Health Organization. Rather than focusing on specific regions or causes, the contributors focus on suicide prevention in these 21 articles. They define suicidal behavior, theories about causes of suicide and its psychobiology, the question of intent, socio-demographic variables, the effect of negative life events, repetition, factors such as drug use or illness that could lead to suicide attempts, social support, and the effects myths (or facts) about the seasons or similar temporal factors. They examine suicidal behavior amongst youth, the aged, and immigrants, and the importance of clinical aspects in non-fatal suicidal behavior. Each article contains its own references.
