While in school studying to become professional graphic designers, the Bellon brothers developed a fascination with the ways in which ordinary people formed letters on decidedly
non-professional hand-painted and hand-drawn signs around the world. They began photographing these signs wherever they saw them and here present the results of their project, which illustrates
both the idiosyncrasies and shared characteristics of examples of popular typography from such places as the United States, the Dominican Repulic, Belize, Canada, Colombia, Venezuela, Hong
Kong, China, Singapore, and Malaysia. They have also created 15 fonts based on their observations of homemade signs, which are included on an accompanying CD-ROM. Annotation 穢2010 Book News,
