The Art of Andy Warhol 2011 Calendar

　　Pop artist Andy Warhol is a source of continuing fascination and visual excitement. While he first worked as an illustrator, he grew most famous for appropriating images from popular culture and incorporating them into his paintings and silkscreen prints. Abrams' 2011 Warhol engagement calendar features more than fifty full-color images from the 1950s through the 1980s. It highlights the artist's most fabulous and recognizable works of art along with a rich and rare selection of drawings, photographs, illustrations, and quotations.

　　Andy Warhol (1928-87) was born Andrew Warhol on August 6, 1928. From an early age, Warhol showed an interest in photography and drawing. After attending Carnegie Mellon University, Warhol moved to New York and worked as an illustrator for several magazines, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and The New Yorker. In 1952 the artist had his first solo exhibition, and four years later, he participated in his first group show at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Appropriating images from popular culture, Warhol created many paintings that remain icons of twentieth century art. He worked in a variety of mediums from painting to photography and in the eighties hosted his own talk-show on MTV. Andy Warhol died on February 22, 1987, firmly established as one of the most important artists of the twentieth century and an international celebrity. More than two thousand people attended a memorial mass given in his honor at St Patrick's Cathedral.
