In the 19th century, when men headed for the hills to seek their fortunes from gold and silver, miners living in remote places needed a mail carrier they could trust to connect them with the
outside world. In Calico, California, the best man for the job was a Border Collie by the name of Dorsey.
Found on the doorstep of a miner Al Stacey's cabin, Dorsey adapted easily to the hustle and bustle of town and was soon joining Al on his weekly trek through the hills to pick up supplies and
mail. Until one hot day when Al decided the mail could wait and Dorsey had other ideas.
Based on a true story, Calico Dorsey captures the can-do spirit of a small mining town and introduces young readers to the West's famous canine mail carrier.
