Bodies and Voices: The Force-Field of Representation and Discourse in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies

This study grew out of a conference held in Copenhagen in 2002, on representations of the body in the colonial and post-colonial world. The editors were all at the time at the University of Copenhagen. Articles cover areas on all continents that were colonized by European countries. They investigate representations in literature, both by the colonizers and colonized. However the papers are also interdisciplinary, focusing on sociological and anthropological views. Many deal with the effect the dominant culture had on the self image of native inhabitants. This is an excellent compilation of many points of view.
