This book shows the latest stadiums designed by von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp). Illustrated with stunning photographs, renderings, plans and drawings, along with detailed descriptions of
each stadium by journalists, architects and engineers, this is the most up-to-date and thorough presentation of the incredible output by this remarkable team of architects.
With the construction of three stadiums for the Football World Cup in Germany in 2006, the architectural team of von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) enhanced their already impressive reputation
by adding stadium design to their extensive portfolio. As opposed to the German stadiums, which were conversions of existing ones, the South African stadiums for the 2010 World Cup were
entirely built from scratch. In Brazil there are currently four new stadiums by gmp in the planning stage for the World Cup in 2014.
This extensively illustrated book which includes plans, sketches and models also depicts the new stadiums being built in Poland, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Slovenia, Romania, Libya, Morocco, India
and China. Volkwin Marg shows how structures evolve from the diverse respective cultural contexts, local characteristics and the functional requirements, hereby taking on a unique architectural
identity. Texts by clients, journalists, architects and engineers explain the political, philosophical and technical background of the individual stadiums.
