多才多藝的美國作家及演說者。擅長以趣味引導的方式，撰寫科普、數學及電腦科技等叢書。出版過二十多本書，定期為《君子雜誌》、《連線雜誌》、《出版家周刊》等撰寫專欄。
嘉斯的父親是華盛頓大學教授，母親是心理學分析博士。從小經常跟隨父母到各國工作，使他擁有開闊的視野與多元的生活經驗。目前和太太、兩個小孩及一隻拉布拉多犬，定居在加州奧海鎮。
