As they spoke to a group of students at the American University in Cairo, the 13 refugees went beyond the conventional image of them as victims, discussing such matters as the government,
non-state actors, civil society, marriage, religious strife, and family values. They are linked to each other by dislocation, nationality, and history, but vary in economic and professional
