This volume is made up of selected papers from conferences held by the Studientage Englisches Mittelalter in Germany and Switzerland from 2004-2007. In the preface Rudolf (English, Oxford University) laments the fact that the study of Middle English is waning. The Variations series (of which this volume 8) is an attempt to revive interest.
