Van der Merwe (music, Miami U., Oxford, Ohio) recounts the history of the Ziegfeld Follies from its first show in 1907 to its final show in 1931 through individual songs from each production.
She examines the musical style, lyrics, performance, and interpretation of each song, as well as within the context of the cultural and performance history of the Follies. Not all songs are
covered, due to availability of materials. The appendix lists, in chronological order by year of the show, the composer, lyricist, publisher, and performer of each song, and where it can be
