First published in 1978 by Hamlyn, this book, the only one to cover the life and work of the celebrated automotive and motor racing artist F. Gordon Crosby, has been difficult to
obtain for many years. Crosby's work, however, has become more well known in the meantime, and original pieces are sold for increasingly high prices. His most productive period was
the 1920s and 1930s, when he worked for Britain's leading automotive weekly, The Autocar. Working in media from charcoal to oils, his subjects ranged over motor racing action,
caricatures, cartoons, technical illustrations, detailed cutaway drawings and depictions of fast cars at speed, always with a special sense of motion and excitement.
