Arkinstall (Spanish, U. of Auckland, New Zealand) addressed the literary production of three women writers whose works articulate their view of modern Spain: Rosario de Acu簽a (1850-1932),
ngela Figuera (1902-84), and Rosa Chacel (1898-1994). In turn, she says, they reflect the rise of the liberal nation among more conservative movements during the late 19th century, the trauma
of the Spanish Civil War and Franco dictatorship, and recovering cultural history in post-Franco Spain. Some of the material has been published previously. Distributed in the US by Associated
