As an acclaimed photographer in his day, John Gay (London's Historic Railways, 1972) didn't make ordinary structures and people appear more dramatic, which is perhaps why Gay's work went out of
fashion but is receiving attention again. Drawing on family accounts and collections including an English Heritage archive, Sargent (presumably with English Heritage) presents biographical
