內容簡介

The Queen's Men was a popular Elizabethan acting company that operated between 1583 and 1595 under the patronage of Queen Elizabeth. In this volume, Ostovich (English and cultural studies, McMaster U., Canada), Syme (English, U. of Toronto, Canada), and Griffin (English, U. of California at Santa Barbara, US) present 16 papers examining different aspects of the company from a range of critical perspectives. Among the topics addressed by the papers are the touring conditions of the company, performance venues within London, the patronage system under Queen Elizabeth, the elements of the company's repertory style, the influence of the company on Shakespeare, and gender and the use of stock characters in the genres of the morality play and the history play.
