The 15 papers of this beautifully produced volume were first presented at a conference called New Perspectives on the Chantilly Codex, held in September 2001 in Tours, France. Centering on the
rich collection of 14th century songs contained within the Codex, the essays consider aspects that include notation, musicology, the methods of the scribe, the songs' reception, the memorial
theme of some of the songs, and the misconceptions surrounding the tempus perfectum diminutum. Six essays consider questions of provenance and of related songs elsewhere in France and in Italy.
The volume, which is slightly oversized (7.5x11.5"), is distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Co. It is not indexed. The collection is a companion to the facsimile of the Codex,
published by the same publisher in 2008: Codex Chantilly, Bibioth癡que du Ch璽teau de Chantilly, 564: Introduction and Photographic Reproduction. Distributed in North America by The David Brown
