My Green Halloween Treasures

A trick-or-treater finds a surprise bag of goodies on his porch in this Halloween tale that introduces small children to an alternative to mass candy consumption. Along with all the others in the neighborhood, the little pumpkin goes door to door and collects the traditional basket of candy. After brushing his teeth, he peeks out the window and discovers his candy is gone. In its place is a basket full of all kinds of goodies—a coloring book, crayons, a feather, stars, stickers, wooden boats, and sunflower seeds to start a garden. Rather than being disappointed at the loss of the sweets, the little pumpkin is elated. He knows that while he would have eaten the candy quickly, he'll be able to play with these treasures for much longer.
