Manchester-based artists Nick Crowe and Ian Rawlinson have gained international recognition for their work—which articulates the complexities of faith by creating visual formulations
simultaneously affirmative and highly critical—in recent years, developing a body of material dealing with pertinent contemporary issues about religious belief, its hold on the individual,
and its continuing ability to define social constituency. Nick Crowe & Ian Rawlinson: At 25 Meters is a vibrant and intriguing volume covering a series of new video work
commissioned by FACT for the exhibition of the same name. Exploring the theme of fire—its association with faith and celebration as well as its dual symbolism of hope and danger—the
centerpiece of Crowe and Rawlinson’s work is the breathtaking “At 25 Meters,” in which a fierce pyrotechnic display gives off the appearance of unrestrained chaos, noise, and color. This
fully illustrated companion volume provides not only a stunning display of the artists’ work, but also a critical reflection on these leading figures of pyrotechnic and video art.
