joined the European Union, thus shifting focus away from the barriers to entrepreneurship and innovation that have been much discussed in the literature and towards those innovation
opportunities that do exist in these environments. Each case explores the interplay between institutional settings, the environment, and the individual characteristics of the entrepreneur, and
