This is a companion book to a 2004 Bryn Mawr art installation and symposium that was accompanied by interactive websites. The diversity of the media reflects the wide range of topics within the
subject of representations of women. Shifrin (art history, Ursinus College) has put together photographs of the exhibits along with essays from the symposium. A CD-Rom is included with more
information and records of the interactive sites. The main theme is how women have been pictured through the centuries, primarily in Western cultures. Sections cover fashion, gender identity,
disabilities, misogynistic satire and portraiture, among others. Many images and essays deal with male/female role reversal. This is a multi-faceted presentation that will interest historians,
artists and anyone interested in the social construction of the feminine. Annotation 穢2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
