The Santa Cruz Mountain Boys: The Bookmark

Ricky Cardenez, a Mexican-American teen, receives from a stranger a miraculous, magical bookmark fashioned from an angel's feather. Ricky soon learns that the bookmark's powers will allow him to actually travel into any book and become a part of the story. Ricky uses the bookmark as an escape from the middle school bullies. During one of his adventures, he gets the notion to use the bookmark to go back in time and meet the father he never knew. His father, Rico Cardenez, was a heroic firefighter, who died while rescuing a pregnant woman in a flood only weeks before Ricky's birth. Original.
