內容簡介

The intellectual, particularly the literary, culture of late Antiquity is approached by classicists here not as transition or closure, but in terms of transformation and dynamic change. The focus is on how classical and Christian texts were received and used by writers of various persuasions. Their topics include antiquity and authority in Nonius Marcellus, some gospel episodes in Juvencus and Sedulius, Plotinus and the myth of love, and Proclus on Plato's Cratylus. Six of the 13 studies are revised from presentations at a September 2000 conference in Maynooth, Ireland. Annotation 穢2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
